As a contractor, you may decide to install PVC column wraps on a home because of its durability and low maintenance requirements. There is a lot to know about installing column wraps and installation methods vary widely depending on the manufacturer and column style. In this blog, we’ll guide you through the process of installing PVC column wraps that require mitered cuts and glue and compare it to the ease of using Snap-Tite® PVC column wraps.

Installing PVC Column Wraps that Require Mitered Cuts and Glue

Step 1: Measure the Columns

Before you start the installation process, measure the height and circumference of the columns you’re wrapping to determine what size of column wraps you’ll need.

Step 2: Cut the PVC Wraps

Using a miter saw, cut the PVC wraps to the correct length and angle to fit around the columns. Ensure you are leaving enough room to adequately wrap the post and secure the column wrap in place.

Step 3: Dry-Fit the PVC Wraps

Dry-fit the PVC wraps and depending on the type, secure the corners with tape to temporarily hold them in place. Make any necessary adjustments to the cuts before proceeding.

Step 4: Apply Glue

Apply a generous amount of PVC glue to the inside of the PVC wraps and carefully place the PVC wraps over the columns, ensuring the wraps are level and straight.

Step 5: Secure the Wraps

Use clamps or straps to hold the PVC wraps in place while the glue dries. Allow the glue to dry according to the manufacturer’s instructions before removing the clamps.  (Approx. 24 hours)

Step 6: Finish the Wraps

Once the glue is dry, use a PVC cleaner to remove any excess glue from the surface of the column wraps.

*This process typically takes about 45 minutes per column BEFORE factoring in the return trip the next day to clean up the glue.
